Hello my Dearest Readers! How have you been? I’m sure you’ve noticed that I haven’t been blogging as much and slower too, it’s because my sister Macy and niece Stephenie have been visiting but they went home last Thursday 😦 So I’ve been busy taking them around and spending time with them ~ But as much as I love them…we were clashing with each other like water and oil LOL you want to know why? It’s because… she simply does not like eating. Yup and we’re fully blood related! I don’t even understand it either 😛
She doesn’t understand why Mr Bao would slave in the kitchen for 4 to 5 hours to cook us a meal, or why I would stay up late to bake a cake. Because she’s more than happy with 2 minute noodles or steamed veggies and fish for dinner 😮 Don’t get me even started on brunch, she doesn’t understand the concept of a leisurely weekend brunch hahaha so last weekend I was glad she told me, she had plans with friends and that we’ll only meet for dinner. Because that meant I could get back to having weekly brunch date with Mr Bao 🙂
That’s how we ended up at Cru Cafe in Kew ~ have read a review by Ashley and someone else told me about it, but I forgot who then when we arrived I realised that person was my colleague (Barry) who lives up the road. It was quite busy when we arrived at around 10:30am, but was lucky to score next to the barista and near the window YAY love natural light!
Wanted something a little different that day, so I ordered a Soy Chai Latte. I was delighted to see how it was served! In a cute little jar 🙂 I am definitely going to steal this idea and serve drinks at home like this. It was also great to know that they use Bonsoy soy milk because that’s my favourite strong nutty flavour without that rough feeling on your tongue afterwards. However, I did find the chai flavour to be a little weak and would’ve liked more spice.
Coffee here is by Five Senses and Mr Bao ordered his usual Magic, commenting that it had very earth notes and ending with some acidity towards the end. He was so impressed he finished it before his meal arrived so he had to other another one ~
I ordered the Roesti which had a potato roesti base, topped with a mixture of smoked salmon, red onion, crispy capered and a poached egg. I particularly liked the gorgeous edible flowers so pretty! The flavours combined very well with each other and even though I’m not usually a fan of capers because it was fried it didn’t have that bitter aftertaste.
The egg was poached perfectly and had a generous amount of smoked salmon, it’s a refreshing breakfast dish and I immediately felt healthier eating it ~
If my dish was light and healthy, Mr Bao’s dish was definitely the opposite, he went for the Angus burger with a wagyu patty and added bacon and egg to it. The meat patty was delicious and not overcooked still retaining it’s juice, the dill remoulade and special sauce gave even more flavour. Not sure if we’ve had red leicester cheese before but it’s definitely better than regular Cheddar.
I think it was a little bit heavy for me with the bacon and egg but so sinfully good. I only had one bite before Mr Bao took it off me and I never saw it again 😦 It also came with some pickles and hand cut chips that was more like wedges.
They had a small cake cabinet near the cashier, and there were so many things I wanted to try such as the carrot cake or the brownie. The friendly waitress also told me that their owner wakes up and bakes everything on site. That immediately impressed me ~ While I was busy choosing what to get, Mr Bao suggested that we try the Canele.
He’s been a bit addicted since we tried one at another cafe, and I’m so glad he did! It had that perfectly caramelized outer crust and the soft moist creme brulee filling inside. Sigh wish I had the copper tins so I could make it at home.
We both enjoyed Cru and am quite jealous that Barry lives walking distance to it! They’re also open for dinner Wednesday to Friday so we’re definitely interested in going back to try their dinner dishes and I’ve had a peek at their menu and I already have my eye set on the lemon dessert ~ Barry you coming? 😛
